There’s something so special about getting to photograph people you already know and adore, which made this The Rose Wedding Welcome Party even more meaningful to me. I met Michelle through our book club, and while she already had a wedding photographer booked when we first met, she later reached out because she realized she wanted coverage of her welcome party too. I’m so glad she did, because this evening was pure magic from beginning to end.

Their The Rose Wedding Welcome Party in Golden, Colorado was filled with exactly the kind of moments I love documenting most — genuine connection, laughter, hugs, happy tears, and the energy of everyone gathering before the wedding day. The weather could not have been more perfect. Golden gave us one of those dreamy Colorado evenings with warm light and gorgeous skies, so we snuck away for a quick five-minute portrait session outside. Sometimes those little in-between moments end up being some of my favorites of the entire celebration.
One of the things Michelle shared with me before the event was that she didn’t want anything overly posed or staged. She simply wanted to remember “all the love and laughter of the evening.” That became the heart of how I approached documenting their The Rose Wedding Welcome Party — capturing the authentic moments as they unfolded naturally.
After delivering the gallery, Michelle left me the sweetest review, and this part especially meant the world to me:
“The photos she delivered a few days later left me speechless. She got everything. My husband and I tucked away like no one else was in the room. Guests hugging each other in the doorway the second they arrived. Friends cracking up mid-speech. Spontaneous hugs and stolen kisses. She even candidly caught a group selfie moment in the most perfect way. She was never in the way, never directing, never making it feel like a shoot. I genuinely forgot she was there, and somehow she caught every single moment that mattered.”
That is always my goal as a photographer. Capturing the moments that mean the most.
