If there’s one thing that makes an early alarm worth it, it’s watching the sun rise over the Flatirons while capturing a family in the middle of a beautiful Colorado fall morning. Today’s sunrise South Mesa Trailhead Family Session at in Boulder gave us all of that and more!
The fall colors were gorgeous, the weather was about as mild as you could hope for in October, and the mountains were glowing with the prettiest alpenglow as the sun came up. It was the kind of morning that reminds me just how lucky we are to have places like this right in our backyard.
Kelley and Dave first hired me to photograph their wedding nine years ago, and every few years since, we’ve gotten together to document their growing family. It’s always so special when wedding clients come back to me for family photos. Getting to see how much their lives have changed and capture new memories along the way is one of the best parts of this job!
A South Mesa Trailhead Family Session, especially in the fall, is one of my all time favorite spots! The golden grasses, colorful trees, and mountain views make it such a beautiful location. But there’s a reason I almost always recommend sunrise here during peak fall season! On any given weekend evening in the fall, you can easily find yourself navigating around 15 other photography sessions happening throughout the area. Sunrise offers a much quieter experience, softer light, and that incredible alpenglow on the mountains that you just can’t beat.
Coming Full Circle with this South Mesa Trailhead Family Session
This location also holds a little extra meaning for Kelley and Dave. Their very first family session with me, when it was just the two of them and their oldest little one, took place right here at South Mesa Trailhead.
