Vail Engagement Session in Colorado
Fall Colors In Vail
Fall in Colorado is one of the most magical times of year. The weather is usually slightly chilly and theres this distinct smell in the air that is just to die for. Something about fall just really warms my soul here. One of the best parts about it are the gorgeous fall colors we get. This Vail Engagement Session in Vail, Colorado just shows those colors off completely.
Colorado Fall Colors
Here is the thing about fall colors in Colorado. You really can’t plan for them on a particular day. It is next to impossible to guess an exact date when it will be the brightest and most yellow. However, after years of shooting in the fall in Colorado, I have realized its worth taking a gamble over. Thats what we did for this Vail Engagement Session and it was worth it.
I usually suggest the last few weeks of September to catch the best color for a Fall Colorado Session. This year, these leaves were the brightest around the 15th of the September. This session being in Vail, meant the elevation was slightly lower than some other areas like Breck (which sits at 9500 feet or so). Vail sits at around 8000 feet elevation. The lower the elevation, usually the later the color will be. Breckenridge was on fire with color in mid September this year. But Vail and Georgetown were looking good into the last week of September. When compared to last year, the colors were hitting their peak at the very end of September. So really… you just never know!

Vail Engagement Session
Vail Colorado is probably one of my new favorite locations for fall colors. We started this vail engagement session on the Gore Valley Trail and just explored the path and what was around there. I went and scouted the location ahead of time and found the best areas with most amount of Aspens. We really timed it well but I still say we were so lucky to still have this amount of amazing color.
For those of you who are local to Colorado you are aware that this year we had snow hit the first week of September. Which is nuts. But really, I was so worried that we wouldn’t get much fall color due to the freeze. But we totally lucked out. Tyler and Alex met me in Vail on the 24th and we adventured around to a few of my favorite spots for their session. There was so much color it was incredibly magical.
Shrine Pass Vail Engagement Session Location
For the second half of their session we headed up Shrine Pass. I took some time and also scouted the exact location on the pass that I wanted to photograph them. Shrine pass in Vail is by far one of the best areas to get some really gorgeous photos. I actually took note of where we went as you are able to do some dispersed camping up there and I can’t wait for summer to go take a few nights and camp up in that area. Vail Colorado has some really great camping if you’ve never been! If you aren’t quite about the dispersed camping you can always opt for a campsite.
