Austin Texas Greenbelt Engagement Session | Carter + KB
Ever since I lived in Austin 4 years ago, I always wanted to do a session down by the greenbelt. Austin is full of beautiful water side spots that make for great portrait locations. It is a place I miss living for sure, as there is always something to do in this amazing town.
Carter and KB have been together for what feels like forever. I have known them since highschool and it is pretty gosh darn amazing seeing them grow in love over the past decade. It is kind of funny actually. Their wedding has been in the works for like nearly 5 years. They reached out when they first got engaged to get some awesome photos captured. So I did their engagements back in 2015 when they first got engaged and had planned to do their wedding as well. They ended up pushing off the wedding for a while. Fast forward a little bit and here we are today. Since it had been so long, it was a necessity that we redo their engagements.
The Austin Texas Greenbelt
I had already had plans to go down to Austin for a wedding I was shooting, so we planned to do the session while I was there. We decided on the greenbelt months prior to me coming down. The Austin Texas Greenbelt is one of my favorite places. Beautiful greenery surrounding a creek with hiking trails and water access. In the summer you will find people swimming in the greenbelt, hiking, and even climbing the cliffs that surround certain areas.
Now, when it was time to make the trek down to Austin, there were some HUGE storms happening throughout central Texas. Lets just say my normal 3.5 hour drive to Austin took me 6 hours in the pouring rain. This worried us all. The rain was non stop and Austin was beginning to flood. Floods in Austin basically meant no greenbelt shooting. We were starting to get super bummed out.
The next day we met up at this local bar called The Gibson on South Lamar and started out with a few drinks on the patio. [How I start off all great engagement sessions]. We were contemplating if we should go ahead and see if the greenbelt was doable. We ultimately decided it was worth the risk and drove out to the greenbelt. I am SO happy we did! Somehow even after weeks of rain, the waters were just high enough to still utilize the location.
The Session
KB and Carter are precious. I love seeing them interact with each other. We started off down at the St. Edwards Park Greenbelt access point. This is a great spot for anyone looking to do a greenbelt session. Easy access, and not a ton of hiking. From there we made our way up towards the Pennybacker bridge and hiked up to the top of the overlook just before going across the river. That spot gives you some killer views of the Colorado River. If you’re in the area and have never gone up there, do it!
I would have to say this session was by far one of my favorites I have ever done in the Austin area. Not to mention Carter and KB are just really rad humans and capturing their awesomeness together was pretty great.
