Colorado Fall Color Family Session at Bear Creek Lake Park

There’s nothing quite like fall in Colorado — and as a Denver family photographer, it’s one of my absolute favorite times of year to capture families. The golden aspens, warm sunlight, and crisp air create the perfect backdrop for a Colorado fall color family session. This one with Sarah and Jeff at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood was pure magic.

Sarah and Jeff are past wedding clients of mine, and getting to photograph them again as their family grows is always such a joy. Bear Creek Lake Park is one of my go-to spots because it’s so close to town, yet feels like a mountain escape. It’s the perfect blend of convenience and beauty — ideal for a Colorado fall color family session without having to drive hours into the mountains.

We explored a quiet area of the park near the creek, where the trees were glowing in every shade of yellow and orange. The kids tossed leaves, ran along the trail, and we paused every so often for a few posed portraits before letting the moment unfold naturally. My shooting style is a mix of posed and candid, with an emphasis on keeping things relaxed and authentic. I love tones that feel timeless and true to life, with just a touch of nostalgia — the kind that takes you right back to that season years from now.

Sessions like this remind me why I love being a Denver family photographer. Watching couples turn into families, and getting to tell their story through all of life’s chapters, is such an honor. If you’ve been dreaming of your own Colorado fall color family session, Bear Creek Lake Park is the perfect place to make it happen.
