A Romantic Morning Wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion
Emily and Floyd’s Micro-Wedding in Denver

There are some weddings that just feel incredibly intentional from the moment you walk in, and Emily and Floyd’s intimate morning wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion was exactly that.
With only their immediate families there to celebrate with them, the entire day felt quiet, meaningful, and completely centered around what actually mattered: the two of them getting married. And honestly? I love a micro-wedding for exactly this reason. There’s something so special about stripping away all the extra production and creating a wedding day that feels genuinely personal.
A Wedding That Felt Like Stepping Back in Time
I am completely obsessed with Grant Humphrey’s Mansion. The vintage architecture, dark wood, enormous windows, old-world details, grand columns, ornate wallpaper and all of those little historic details make this Denver wedding venue feel unlike anywhere else. Emily got ready surrounded by beautiful natural window light, with her daughter helping her into her dress and her family close by. There were quiet moments, excitement that was electrifying, and so many beautiful little details throughout the morning.
And then there was the piano. Emily and Floyd sitting together at the piano inside the mansion might be one of my favorite moments from their entire day. It felt effortless and intimate, and it perfectly captured the feeling of their wedding.
Why I Love a Morning Wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion
If you’re considering a wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion in Denver, I have a little photographer tip for you: consider getting married in the morning. The ceremony lawn at Grant Humphrey’s faces west, which means afternoon and evening ceremonies can put the sun directly behind your guests—or directly into the faces of you and your partner. The trees can also create a lot of dappled sunlight, which can be beautiful in person but much trickier photographically when you’re trying to create clean, consistent portraits.
A morning ceremony completely changes the light. For Emily and Floyd, we had that gorgeous soft morning light throughout their wedding, both inside the mansion and outside on the lawn. It gave everything this dreamy, almost film-like quality that worked so beautifully with the historic setting.
So if you’re dreaming of a wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion in Denver, don’t automatically assume an evening ceremony is the only way to go. A morning wedding can give you some truly gorgeous light and it can also create a slower, quieter feeling for an intimate celebration.
And honestly, that was my favorite thing about Emily and Floyd’s day. It wasn’t about putting on a huge production. It was about getting married. Surrounded by the people they love, in one of Denver’s most beautiful historic venues, on a quiet summer morning. And those are the kinds of weddings I will always love photographing most. Huge thank you to Trystan Photography for having me along as a second photographer for this gorgeous micro-wedding.
