As a Denver wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing so many beautiful love stories, but Holly and Hollis’s Backyard Denver wedding will forever be one of the most unforgettable. Set in their own backyard on a cozy September afternoon, their day was filled with laughter, love, and a touch of spontaneity that perfectly reflected who they are as a couple. This was the best day, even with the crazy rain we got during dinner, they embraced it and enjoyed every moment with their friends and family. I brought along my little 35mm point and shoot film camera too just to grab some random moments. You can see those at the end of this post!

Their Wedding Day

From the moment I arrived, their sweet dog, Oats, stole the show. Whether he was running through the yard greeting guests or posing proudly during portraits, Oats made sure everyone knew he was part of the celebration. As a Denver wedding photographer, it’s moments like these that I live for—authentic, joy-filled memories that show off the heart behind each couple’s day. While most of the day brought overcast skies, right before dinner the skies opened and it started to pour. But instead of letting the rain put a damper on things, Holly and Hollis embraced it. Guests danced, laughed, huddled under umbrellas and in their ponchos, turning what could have been a hiccup into one of the most fun parts of the night. That’s the magic of a Backyard Denver wedding—you never know what will happen, but it always ends up feeling so personal and real.

One of the most unique moments I’ve ever witnessed as a Denver wedding photographer was during their ceremony. Holly and Hollis decided to hold a raffle to choose who would stand beside them in their wedding party! Their friends and family were stunned, laughing and cheering as names were drawn. It was such a heartfelt and unexpected way to include everyone they loved most. Every detail of this Backyard Denver wedding felt intentional, intimate, and full of personality. Holly and Hollis created a day that was perfectly them—laid-back, joyful, and overflowing with love (and maybe a little rain).
